Casey & Her Kidney Experice

For the full articles visit Austin's newspaper, The Statesman, website by clicking the above photo.

I am deeply moved by Ms. Juliana Casey story. How horrible it is that there are young people out there who have such unfortunate lives. In Ms. Casey's case, her kidneys began to die out at the age of 11...one, one... eleven. Her story strikes me because I used to go with my mom to take my grandmother to dialysis. I believe my grandmother was in her late 70's, early 80's when she started her treatment. She had the chance to live a normal life before she was put on her restrictions and given dialysis treatment, unlike Ms. Casey who only had part of her childhood. By the age of 19, a close friend donated her kidney to her. Ms. Casey final had the chance to live a normal life until the transplanted kidney also began to die out. Ms. Casey is now on the list for the Texas organ donating program. My prayers are out for her and like her.

If someone close to you kidney's failed, would you give up one of your kidneys?

Quoted by Nathan Biller in the Times Record News
"For those who wish to set a personal best record this Thanksgiving, Biller has some advice:

■ Start with am empty stomach. “I mean, don’t eat breakfast. You want to leave yourself plenty of room.”

■ Eat quickly. “You have to start fast and eat plenty before your stomach can tell your brain you’re full.”

■ Drink lots of water as you eat. “Lots of people think it will fill you up but it actually lets you swallow bigger chunks of food.”

■ Save dessert for last. “This is very heavy stuff so start with the turkey and dressing, no matter how much you want to sneak that piece of pie.”"

"The district has purchased 200 3-D content chips so far, which contain lessons for middle and high school students. The content ranges from one-minute to five-minute programs, covering topics in physics, chemistry and biology." writen by Lara K. Richards from Time Records News.

Click the image to visit The Monitor's website for the full article.

Money is tight for many schools and as a result, schools face budget cuts across the curriculum. School's reel in money any way possible and such a way is by using blank areas on school buses for paid advertisements (such as the about image). Mission and McAllen Texas are considering taking this leap. It has proven itself successful in some of Houston's local school district.

My question to y'all is, "Do you think advertisement on school buses hinders the educational values of a school?"

A food processing plant in San Antonio, Texas was closed after federal health officials found listeria bacteria.

The plant was shut down October 20, 2010 and all products shipped since January were recalled.

It is very scary hearing story like this because our society has adapted to process foods, but there have been evidence leading that process food have problems also. Such as Peter Pan Peanut-butter, tomatoes where causing lots of death, pork and swine flue, Tyson Chicken (and the employee putting broken saw blades in the food), now this? What more is to come and are we even prepared? What do you think?
